getting the best from
your heat patches . . .
Hints
and tips for using Japanese import patches
It can take some time and experimentation to get the best from Heat Patches.
The most important thing is to get them positioned exactly where you need
them. Once there you will then need to ensure as much as possible of the heat
it generates is focused onto your body and does not escape unused.
Below our some hints and tips that customers have offered that can help you get the best from these heat patches.:
Against
Backs:
Buy an elasticised back support, which has a pocket
for the ridged support. (Boots and other chemists offer such products) Place
one or two patches as required in the pocket (not on top of each other). The
support will keep the patch firmly in place under clothing as well as helping
to stop too much of the heat escaping.
Summer/Winter
usage:
In Winter most people tend to wear jumpers etc. These
will help keep the patches' heat from escaping. Hence a patch that may feel
less effective on hot summer days, may have a much greater impact in winter.
Knee
and Elbow joints:
Any reusable bandage provides an ideal fixing for the Compact size patches
against joints. It also helps reduce heat loss. Bandaged correctly, one or
two patches will stay in place, even if you go jogging!
Multi-session
use:
To stop the heating reaction you have to block all access of air to the patch.
Even a little air can be enough to start the reaction and slowly eat away
at the patches remaining life. Cling film provides an excellent and quickly
applicable barrier. If you want to retain the adhesive backing, place a bit
of baking paper over it before wrapping the patch in cling film. This can
be easily removed when you want to use the patch again.
Hands:
Do you need to keep fingers warm, but can't wear a glove as you need to type
etc. Take a Compact Heat Patch, expose the adhesive backing and fold it lengthwise
onto itself. All the adhesive side should be stuck to itself. You will then
have a long thin soft length of Heat Patch. Carry this around with you and
whenever you can just grip it in your hand. You'll be surprised how comforting
the warmth is, despite not being present all the time. For stronger heat,
use one of the Regular size Heat Patches instead.
Low
output:
If you find a patch not performing as well as others, check that it has good
access to air. The patches may not work as effectively trapped against a plastic
water proof coat or in air tight gloves. However, loosely positioned they
will get some air and be fine. Also ensure that the adhesive side faces your
body. The non-adhesive side has a membrane allowing the contents access to
air and this must face outwards in order to get access to the air and work
properly.
